The Streets are Cold - A Stray Dog RP

We're all living in this dump together...and we're not even working together to help each other survive...I just don't understand it...

In this RP, it is simply your duty to survive on the streets of a crowded city as a stray dog. However, if you choose to roleplay as a pet, you're more than welcome to. Just be sure to know that strays most often don't take to house pets too kindly.

His claws scraped the rough cement as he scurried down the street, his amber eyes wide with terror. He should have known that the butcher shop's owner was coming back! But he was stupid enough to go in there just to "see what he could find." And now here he was, being chased by a man with a butcher knife. A classic scene, but he was living it, and he had to get away as fast as he could.

She stared blankly at the dog running down the street wondering why he was running. Then she saw the man chasing him with the knife. She knew she had to help as soon as she could. As the butcher ran past she jump out and grabbed onto the mans shirt forcing him to the ground. Then she darted up to catch up with the other dog, "WAIT UP!!!" She screamed ( her name is Corky, and she is a stray)

He skidded to a stop, which sort of surprised him as well. He looked back to see the man laying on the ground, struggling to get back up. Then he saw the female running towards him and gave a small nod, "Come on!" As soon as she had gotten close enough, he ran forward a few feet and then darted into an alleyway, hoping she would follow so that he could thank her.

(Mind if I join in as a house pet?)

Through the beautifully paned windows of a classic city townhouse, Rosie's amber eyes watched the scene between the two strays and the butcher unfold in front of her. Seeing the lumbering man with the meat cleaver chase after two highly athletic street dogs amused her greatly. She watched him tumble to the ground with a snicker and silently hoorah'd for the female who took him down. Her amber eyes sparkled as she giggled.

As the two dogs darted into the alleyway the to right of the townhouse, Rosie poked her head out of the dog door and tilted her head a little in curiousity.

I wonder what they're up to...? she thought as she trotted over to the short brick wall that lined the front yard. She placed her paws on it and stared over at them interestedly.

(Rosie is a golden retriever/border collie mix, about 45 lbs, gold in color.)

Corky followed Milo, for she had nothing else to do and she was wondering why the butcher was chasing him in the first place. She sat down catching her breath and said, "What happened?! You could have been killed!" She said as she turned around to make sure the butcher hadn't followed them. Then she caught a sent and headed over to find a golden retriever sticking her head out. Corky lifted her head up "Why are you there in that house? A human could come by and hurt you!" She said without realizing Rosie was a house pet.

Rosie tilted her head and furrowed her eyebrows.
"Uhm, the masters would NEVER hurt me. They love me, they are my family. As long as I'm smart enough not to steal anything from the table I keep my nose out of trouble." she huffed importantly, poking her pink nose towards the sky.
"Now, why were you both running from that butcher? You didn't steal MEAT, did you?" scoffed the young dog, leaping gracefully up onto the wall, her white paws small and light. Her tail flashed back and forth with curious excitement. Though she acted pompous, the prospect of adventurous street dogs intrigued her greatly.

"Master? You must be one of those house pets, I met another one once before but he wasn't so kind...He led his master to me and I was forced to the pound, but I escaped very easily." She said with a bit of anger from that old memory. "Your not going to give me away...are you?" She said very cautiously. ".....I would never even go in one of those buildings even if there was food inside! Its to much of a risk for me...but I don't know about that other dog over there, he might of done something.." She said turning her head towards Milo again.

(Mind if I jump in as a stray?)

The pitch black stray looked up as three dogs. She sniffed the air surrounding her she realized two were strays-like herself- while the other was a house pet. She shuddered. Her curiosity took over and she approached the trio in time to hear the house pet. "...Ick." She whispered quietly, just audible for the other dogs to hear.

"I tried." Milo said quietly as he sat himself down to scratch behind a floppy ear with his hind claws. After about three good scratches, he put his leg down and perked his ears up as he listened to the two females chat. As soon as the one that had saved him spoke about an incident she'd had with a house pet, he realized that he owed her a favor. He nodded to himself softly, realizing that fact. Then, automatically, his left ear went to the side as he heard something--another dog. His whole head followed suit and he just barely saw a pitch-black dog. He knew immediately just by the look of her that she was a stray as well.

Rosie watched as Milo cocked an ear in the direction of a barely audible strange noise. She whipped around quckily, tail lashing her haunches with the force. Body crouched in a sort of semi-threatening play bow, ears tense, she tried to look as menacing as possible.
Upon finding that it was another dog, she arose from her bowing position back to standing elegantly, an embarrassed look plaguing her face. She cleared her throat and tossed her head back to try to shake it off.
"And who are YOU?" she snapped at the newcomer, pointing a thin snout in her direction.

Corky looked around at the other dog as well, but not as furiously for she had seen the dog before. She had seen many stray and pet dogs but she didn't know their names, she walked over and said, "Hi there, my name's Corky!" She said with her head high exposing the white stripe down her chest.
She then looked over at Milo and said with her brown eyes gleaming, "It wasn't your fault, dogs just can't resist the great smell of meat! But I have learned to over come my nose, for I to have been in your position but I wasn't as lucky..." She said and turned exposing a slight scar where no fur would grow down her right back leg. "I don't want this to happen to you, that's why I always watch for those humans...I just don't trust them anymore....." She said with sorrow in her eyes..."I was once a house pet as you are Rosie..but I wasn't so lucky....I-" She paused, bringing back all that sorrow and anger was to much for her..

She arched her neck. "My name is Scarlet. I suppose you're a house pet." She said. She turned to Corky. "Nice to meet you." She murmured. Scarlet listened to Corky tell her story. "Thats happened to me too. She turned her neck to the side to show a long scar that started at the base of her skull and skidded all the way to her shoulder.

The dirty red-and-white dog laid his ears back as two of the females showed off some scars. "Some of us just don't have it as well as others, huh?" he whimpered, more to himself than any one else, really. Then he glanced up at Rosie with a look that said, 'You're so lucky to be a house pet.' Then his gaze drifted nervously back down to his paws.

Scarlet turned her head to the male stray. "Some pet owners are better than others. My mum was abused all the time." She shrugged. Her orange-red eyes gave her her name, due to when she was she was using a specific emotion, they'd glimmer and turn blood red.

Corky looked at Scarlet intently,"I see we have gone down the same path...." She then looked at Rosie and said, "You better watch out, you never know when they might turn on you.." She sat down on her haunches.
"I was only a puppy, the people I lived with didn't feed me or give me water, they pretty much just wanted to watch me die and then they let out the giant great dane that chased me and cut me in the rear..." She looked at her old scar, "I ran for my life and didn't stop, I never returned and I have been living on the streets ever since." She said with a few warm tears running down her cheeks.

Scarlet nodded. "You never know when a stray might turn on you." She turned her gaze to Rosie then continued, " I've been in to many fights to count. I got this nasty cut from my third quarrel." She explained before nuzzling Corky to comfort her.

Milo's ears stayed down, and he couldn't help but let out a few small whimpers when Corky had started to cry. "Well," he spoke up, trying to sound more confident, "you don't have to worry about anything happening to you, Corky. I owe you one, and I won't let anyone else hurt you." He didn't sound like a desperate pup, either. His voice was firm, and there was a strict confidence in his stance as well. He was going to protect Corky from danger. No questions asked.

Corky immediately stopped crying as both the dogs comforted her, she thought to herself wow, I have never felt so much trust and welcoming kindness before. She looked at Scarlet as she nuzzled her and whispered, "Thank you." Then she turned to Milo and said, "Well thanks! But I think I'll be fine, but if you really want to protect me go ahead, just stay out of my way please? I had helped another male stray before and he wouldn't leave me alone!" She said with a bit of anger, "But he wasn't as sweet as you, Milo. You to Scarlet!." She smiled at both of them.

He couldn't help but snicker when she said "and he wouldn't leave me alone!" He stood up on all fours now and nodded, "Well I'll be sure to stay out of your way, then." he teased slightly, trying to lighten up the mood even more. His tail wagged, "See, now this is what the town really needs. More strays helping each other out." he nodded.

"Oh jeeze..." Rosie mumbled, shuffling her white-dipped front paws on the brim of the brick fence. She turned her gaze back to the townhouse, eyes sparkling with love for the people inside it who fed her and groomed her and gave her a nice warm place to sleep. Looking back at the odd array of strays that were skewed before her, her eyes took on a determined, adventurous quality.
"Your stories all sound sad and all, but I think I'd like to try a life on the street for a little while. These fences and walls are so binding, I've never really seen life outside of the them. Mind if I tag along with you guys for a spell?" she said, shaking her head from side to side with vigor, her license and ID tag clinking together merrily on her pink collar.
She looked down at the trio of strays and smiled a small smile of overconfident adventure and exploration. She was excited, and her wagging tail showed it.

Milo just stopped and stared up at the house pet.

And then he laughed. "Hah!...Oh..." and he stopped, "You're serious..." he realized. "I mean, I don't want to offend you or anything, but won't your people be worried and send someone to find you? Like, I don't know, maybe the dog catcher?"

Rosie shrugged and leapt off the wall lightly to join the strays on the ground.
"If they do, I guess I'll just have to outrun them." She said snidely, giving Milo a confident smirk with cold eyes. "And hey, just 'cause I'm a housepet doesn't mean I don't have guts or anything else it takes to survive on the streets. I want to see the world, I want to go on an adventure! Don't underestimate me."

Scarlet smiled at Corky. "Well, thats what friends are for!" She barked happily. Her head turned to Rosie. "Well, then you might wanna take that off." the female stray pointed to the ID tag and collar.

Oh, how he hoped he wouldn't disturb the peace even further by tugging at the issue, "I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about us. Sure, you could outrun him, but don't you think that finding a group of strays would be like a smorgasbord for him?" and then he sighed. He didn't feel he was in authority to rightly say if another dog were to join them or not.
