SOH choked. "Tassle, Staple, Kjell, Kenny, and little moose." she said emotionless as she looked out.

Swiftnight nodded.
"And what were they like, SOH? What did they look like?"

"OH, they were all small, fuzzy and black and white. Short little legs, bright blue and amber eyes. typical aussies. why?" SOH turned to the wolf.

Sherbert looked at SOH, she rested her tail on SOH's back.

"Because I know how it feels," the wolf began, returning SOH's gaze, "I know how it feels to have your heart broken as you see your children dead. I know what its like to mourn them forever. I remember the smell of their fur and the sound of their yips..."

"yeah..." SOH sighed, "i miss them so much, i probably would have killed my mate if the farmer had not gotten rid of him..."

"My mate was already dead..."

Sherbert started bawling, "I miss all the pups, I miss yours SOH, I miss mine, I didnt know yours Swift, but I miss them too.." She layed her head down, crying

"what where yours like?" she turned to swiftnight. missing the playdates of her and sherberts puppies, her puppies being a little bit older.

Swiftnight smiled sadly at Sherbert before answering SOH. She turned to look back at the sunrise.
"There were three: Moki, Chandra and Raje. Moki was a sleet gray, Chandra was white like her father, and Raje...my little Raje was black, just like me. They were bit and healthy and just darling."

Sherbert stopped crying and looked at Swift.

"They sound so beautiful" Sherbert whisperd

"puppies are the best..." soh sighed "i hope to have another litter someday..." SOH's maternal side was one of her few weaknesses.

"They are.. I wish I could just see my pups again.. just once." SHerbert looked at SOH.

"mabie max has them in his armty of his, but tha's different i guess..." SOH sighed

"Yea, I dont think they are real enough to actually care for, love.." Sherbert sighed

"youre right..."

Sherbert looked at SOH, and smiled, "At least we have each other, even though its not the same."

"yea!" SOH said. "lets get some sleep. im pooped."

"Me too." Sherbert layed down, back to back with SOH, "Just like the good ol' days" She smiled.

Swiftnight smiled and nodded.
"I...I'm going for a walk," she stated, getting up and padding away into the gloomy forest, her mind on her dead family. Moki had reminded her so much of Granite, and Chandra had had her mother's pretty green eyes. Raje was such the little devil, he was as stubborn as Alistair, but could be as friendly....Alistair....Alistair...
"Remember me?" came a voice, and Swiftnight was dragged out of her thoughts to see a familiar white wolf standing before her, an eery light about him and a dead look to his eyes.
"You...Alistair," Swift pleaded, tears pricking her eyes, "You're not real....you're dead..." The male wolf smiled.
"I am alive in your memories, and therefore your heart, Swiftnight...."His face turned serious. "Bloodmaw's a good wolf," he stated, "But you don't like him." That was neither a question nor a statement.
"No..." Swiftnight answered vaguely, "There's just...something more, something I'm missing."
"You can't miss me forever Swiftnight...how will I ever be able to come back if you do?" The she-wolf looked up in surprise.
"What do you mean...?"
"Reincarnation...Swiftnight, I have to go..." He bagan to fade.
"No! NO!" she cried, dashing towards him.
"Remember me....." he whispered, and as she ran to meet him, she went right through him; Alistair disappeared. The she-wolf howled in misery, the tears falling.

Daisy looked at Fell again, "I don't know what to think anymore..." she sighed

"I know what you mean. Everything changed."

SOH woke with a jolt, she had a nightmare, the last thing she needed. she got up and walked to a stream and drank.

Swiftnight slept by the streambank, troubled by dreams. She kept hearing Alistair's voice, 'Remember me...." and snarled and barked at unseen enemies, trembling something terrible.
